Support Colgate

Take part in the largest transformation in University history.

As we move boldly forward into our third century, the University will once again rely on the energy and passion of its distinctive community to help secure the value of a Colgate education for generations to come. Progress is being made and its impact is already being felt. But our work is just beginning.

While making an online gift is the simplest way to support Colgate and its students, many additional options are available to meet your needs and preferences.

Boldly Forward

Gifts of all sizes make a difference in the lives of Colgate students and will help us achieve our bold third-century ambitions.

Named funds, restricted to a specific purpose, allow alumni, parents, and friends to honor or memorialize themselves, loved ones, or other special individuals in a particularly meaningful way.

For more information, contact Thirza Morreale at 315-228-6776 or tmorreale@colgate.edu.

Your company's matching gift program can double, and in some cases triple or quadruple, the value of your gifts to Colgate. Thousands of corporations in the United States and Canada also match gifts from employee spouses and retirees.

Endowment funds, which exist in perpetuity and are managed by the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, provide support for many of the University’s most vital, transformational initiatives.

Unrestricted endowment contributions provide Colgate with long-term financial flexibility. Named funds, restricted to a specific purpose, allow alumni, parents, and friends to honor or memorialize themselves or loved ones in a particularly meaningful way.

There are several types of restricted endowment funds, including:

  • Professorships: Allow Colgate to recruit and retain the brightest faculty for our classrooms and the best coaches for our athletic teams. Endowed professorships can be established with an average minimum investment of $2.5 million.
  • Scholarships: Make a Colgate education accessible for almost half of our undergraduate population each year. Restricted scholarships can be established with minimum contributions of $100,000; unrestricted scholarships with a minimum gift of $50,000.
  • Institutes of Advanced Study: Enhance Colgate’s reputation by supporting faculty scholarship and promoting student-professor research initiatives that cross disciplinary boundaries. Named institutes require a minimum contribution of $5 million.
  • Student Research Funds: Enable students to collaborate with faculty members on meaningful summer research projects. Student research funds can be established with a minimum gift of $100,000.
  • Internship Funds: Allow students from all financial backgrounds to pursue unpaid or underpaid summer internships that are important for career exploration and experience. Internship funds can be established with a minimum gift of $100,000.

For more information, contact Thirza Morreale at 315-228-6776 or tmorreale@colgate.edu.

Planned gifts, or legacy gifts, are a popular way to commemorate reunion or life milestones. These gifts include any estate provision by will or living trust, IRA beneficiary designation, or certain gift arrangements that pay income in return.

Planned gifts qualify the donor for membership in the Willow Society, Colgate’s legacy gift society. If you have already included the University in your estate plans, but have not yet told Colgate, we encourage you to get in touch. This provides Colgate with the opportunity to thank you and to ensure proper stewardship of your eventual gift. All information is kept confidential.

To learn more, contact the planned giving team by phone at 800-813-1819, via email at plannedgiving@colgate.edu, or visit us on the web.

If you would like to make a gift of stock or a cash wire transfer, contact our gift records staff at giftrecords@colgate.edu or 315-228-7784.
